The Gargiulo Legacy Fund, created by NOTES FOR EDUCATION, is dedicated to supporting young musicians by providing scholarships for private music lessons at the Napa School of Music. This fund offers both full and partial scholarships to help students achieve their musical goals.

To apply, students and their families must complete an online application, which includes basic information about the applicant, their interest in music, how the scholarship will benefit them, and a letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to the student’s passion for music.

Scholarships are reviewed and awarded twice a year. Current applications are due by February 2, 2025, for Spring lessons, which will begin no later than March 2025.

After the selection committee reviews the initial applications, in-person interviews will be scheduled with a number of students, allowing the committee to meet each applicant and hear about their musical interests directly. These interviews will take place at the Napa School of Music, located at 702 Trancas Street, Napa, CA, during February 2025.

If your child is selected to receive a scholarship, you will receive instructions on how to schedule lessons and finalize enrollment at the Napa School of Music. All scholarship recipients are required to adhere to the school’s code of conduct, which will be reviewed prior to the scholarship being awarded.

Why give?

  • There’s a real need for accessible music education! It is estimated that only 28% of interested students from low-income families receive any music instruction, compared to 62% from higher-income households. This gap is largely due to the high costs of lessons and instruments.

  • With schools cutting music programs, kids who are passionate about music often don’t get the chance to explore their potential. Music isn’t just fun—it’s a superpower for brain development! Research shows that learning music boosts memory, attention, problem-solving, and even language skills, while also fostering creativity.

  • Kids who engage with music education not only excel academically, but they also grow emotionally, learning to express themselves, collaborate, and build self-confidence.
